Buena semana ;-)

Rituals:
The things we do each day, every day, often arrive without intent. … Bringing intent to our rituals gives us the chance to rewire our attitudes. But first we need to see it.

Camina por tu ciudad. Quítate la escarcha del cuerpo. Despierta.

Exponential View by Azeem (& team)
Mind reading. Japanese researchers Takagi and Nishimoto used Stable Diffusion to reconstruct images from brain activity with astonishing precision.
The paper is too not yet peer-reviewed, but it shows the accomplishment of a technology that has been in the works for years. In EV#138 of November 2017, I wrote:
Purdue researchers have paired up high-fidelity fMRI scans with deep learning networks to decode videos people are watching, from brain activity alone. This is approaching real-time mind-reading.
Problematic parrots: Mind reading it might be, mind understanding it is not. Computational linguist Emily Bender warns that AI’s linguistic abilities trick us into thinking that these systems understand and create meaning.

OpenAI’s services are delivered by API. This means that the firm can clamp down on any unfortunate uses of its models. The leak of LLaMa, the powerful LLM released by Meta is perhaps more pernicious. LLaMa’s model is available on torrents to download. Anyone could access it and fine-tune it how they like. A 4chan bot anyone? Or a bot fine-tuned for phishing attacks?

2. Matter of Factness
“Whatever you have to say, give it to us right in the first sentence, in the simplest possible terms.”
“The best answers are the most matter of fact. It’s a mistake to use marketing-speak to make your idea sound more exciting.”
“One good trick for describing a project concisely is to explain it as a variant of something the audience already knows. It’s like Wikipedia, but within an organization. It’s like an answering service, but for email. It’s eBay for jobs.”
My 2 cents: Most worthwhile investors have a pretty developed bullsh*t detector, they’ve heard thousands of pitches and heard all the buzzwords.
They want straightforward answers when they ask you what problem you are solving for. There is a difference between telling them what you solve for and demonstrating how well you understand the problem space.
3. Insight
“Just as what we look for in founders is not the type of achievement but the magnitude, what we look for in ideas is not the type of ideabut the level of insight you have about it.”
My 2 cents: Here’s where you can go deep, tell them a great story –how you started thinking about the problem space, show them how deep you’ve gone into the idea maze.
… You should be able to demonstrate you have already thought of all of the basic questions around your problem space. This is when sparring, doing many mock pitches with friends and cofounders will help.
